Canucks

I don't really recall why, but Cheryl came in at 9:30am on the first day and woke me up. At least she was nice about it. Ahh, wait a minute... It was because her mum, Lois had baked some breakfast for us. She calls it 'Land of Nod' and it is a dumpling style breakfast with cinnamon and sugar. It was delicious!! It had much more sugar than my usual breakfast, but this trip is about new experiences, right? There was also a massive bowl of Fruit Salad too, but as Brett says, you don't win friends with salad!
We lazed about for a while, while Glen started watching the football. You know when you get that feeling that you've forgotten something? Well I'd had that since Sydney. On Sunday morning I discovered what it was I had left behind. A belt, of any kind. Glen came to rescue with a belt and a nice pair of gloves. Talk about silver service! Anyway, then it was off to Lynn Valley for a quick walk:

It was a brisk day, the snow from the previous evening still decorated everything. We started by crossing the suspension bridge, which afforded us a great view of the valley. After a short walk we were in the valley proper. The water flows straight from the mountains. It was so clear you could see straight through it. I realised that all the creeks I've seen in Australia are always full of murky green/brown water. This creek was quite striking. Ohh and there was a massive set of stairs, just to keep the blood flowing.

After this, we hit the mall briefly. I needed some Canadian dollars and we all needed some lunch. We found meat pies and sausage rolls! Brett had gone without for so long, we had to indulge him. The Canadian money is similar to ours, except they still use 1 cent pieces, the ubiquitous penny! (Pennies are starting to shit me up the wall actually.)

On the way home from here, we detoured up Cypress, for a quick view of vancouver:

I'll let the photos do the talking!

We heading in to the Cactus Club Cafe for quick bite and some preparatory beers. We met Kim there while we indulged. Kim is Lois and Glen's goddaughter and is one of two day mangers of the cafe. Her recommendations were great. Tuna Tataki and Beef Carparchio followed by Butternut Pumpkin Ravioli. I don't what the beer was, but it was very close to the Franziskaner I had been drinking on my birthday. Sweet!

Now, the highlight of the day. The hockey! You know how Australians are crazy about cricket? We've got nothing on the Canadians and their hockey. It is all you see on TV, just about. Cheryl's family have been mad keen on the Vancouver Canucks. Sort of like the McKenna obsession with the Tigers. Brett managed to secure some amazing tickets. They were season ticket holder seats, that were sold just before the game. I reckon we were just above where the camera operates from. In a nutshell, they were perfect! The Canucks were playing a back to back game, they already played on Satuday too! For us tonight, they played against Florida. Ohh and for the record, 'Canucks' rhymes with 'ducks'. In an exciting start, Florida came out hard and scored two quick goals. They interchange players every couple of minutes. It is quick and bizarrely elegant. The Canucks took their time in responding, but came back to win 5-3 in the end. Very, very exciting!

Having a beer is all part of the atmosphere, and we ended up drinking Rickards White, which is somewhat similar to Coopers Pale Ale. Ended the night catching up with Michelle and Matt until close. Talking about Canada, snowboarding and Canada. Perfect!
